In many remote areas of Algeria, access to electricity remains limited or irregular. To address this challenge, a new solution is emerging: mini community solar power plants. Easy to deploy, inexpensive to maintain, and adapted to local climatic conditions, they offer a sustainable alternative to polluting generators.
In El Oued, a pilot project has equipped a village of 600 inhabitants with a 30 kW mini power plant, supplying electricity to the school, health center, and several homes. Funded by an NGO in partnership with local engineers, the project has trained technicians on site to maintain the system.
Beyond energy production, these installations create jobs, reduce CO₂ emissions, and improve the quality of life for residents. They also show that with the right solutions, the energy transition can be inclusive and beneficial for all.
